Application for
E-mail List Service
DCN provides for subscriber-managed E-mail Lists whereby groups
with common interests may share information. DCN uses a mailing-list
program called
Mailman.
You (not DCN) will be the list's "list-owner." You will
be responsible for list maintenance.
The list-owner is also the administrator of the list, to whom all bounces
(failed e-mailings) will go, and to whom any "approvals"
will be sent. The list administrator can tailor the operation
of the list by means of interactive web pages specific to the mailing list.
As the list-owner, you will also be sent a message describing
how to access the configuration pages for your list.
Although list management is not difficult, it does require some
familiarity with use of web-based forms and mailing-list jargon.
By default, new mailing lists have the following properties:
- Only list members may post messages to the list.
- The list is unmoderated. (i.e. Messages to the list do
not require approval of a moderator.)
- Only list members may see a list of list members.
- Anyone may subscribe to the list without requiring approval of
the list-owner.
The list-owner can modify these characterictics and others through
the administrative web pages.
Before proceeding with your application for a mailing list, please
review the
DCN Price and Service Information page.
