Top-level InterNet domains .COM, .NET, .ORG, .EDU, .BIZ, .TV, .COOP, .INFO, .NAME, .KIDS and .GOV. are managed by accredited registrars.To register domain names under these top-level domains, see the list of accredited registrars on the the InterNIC web site at: http://www.internic.net.
To register domain names under GOV send email to registration@fed.gov or retrieve information from http://www.nic.gov.
Similarly, registration services for the .US geographic domain is managed by the U.S. Domain Registry.
If you are registering a domain name that ends
with davis.ca.us, proceed to
the geographic domain Application Form.
Before proceeding with the registration of your new domain name, please review the following guidelines:
Your Domain-Name Registrar will likely require that you provide the following information:
- Fully Qualified Domain Name
- Provide your proposed domain name (e.g. myguys.com). You should check the whois database to be certain that the name is available and not already in use by someone else.
- Purpose/Description
- Provide a short description of your organization sufficient
to justify its classification in the top-level domain.
- The top-level domains are:
- COM - commercial, for-profit organizations
- ORG - for non-profit organizations
- NET - for network infrastructure machines and organizations
- EDU - for 4-year, degree granting instututions
- BIZ - for businesses
- TV for television organizations
- COOP - for cooperatives
- NAME - for individuals
- KIDS - for individual children
- INFO - for general, unrestricted information
- GOV - for US federal government agencies
- ORG - for non-profit organizations
