DAVIS COMMUNITY NETWORK Information Providers Committee Meeting Notes EVENT: IPC Regular Monthly Meeting DATE: Wednesday, June 6, 2001 TIME: 6:30 - 7:30 pm PLACE: City of Davis Computer Lab, 600 A Street IPC Members Attending: John Chiles, Anne Hance (Chair), Richard Yamagata, Members absent: John Batchelder, Alan Brattesani, Wendy Yoder 1. 6:30 - Meeting called to order 2. Business: We had two visitors from Yolo Connections/Volunteer Center. They were Tania and Jada (not sure of spelling - apologies) We looked at the Yolo Connections Web site using the lab projection system and discussed the need to update the pages which were last updated in 1998. We recommended that the IPC should help Yolo Connections not by updating the pages for them but by emabling them to update them themselves. The visitors agreed with this approach. One of the visitors had taken an HTML course several years ago and is a bit 'stale' but eager to refresh her knowledge. Our visitors agreed to print out their pages and mark up the changes and additions that are necessary. They will also find what master files they have and determine which computer will be the one to hold the master Web site files as they are updated. Richard Yamagata agreed to be in contact in July and go over to their office to meet with them and a member of their board who is interested in helping. He will figure out what extra software they might need (such as WS_FTP) and give them guidance on how to go about making themselves competent to do their own updating. If a special training session at the City lab is necessary, the IPC will arrange this. 3. Discussion: None. The meeting adjourned so that John and Richard could return to the Business Expo at Central Park where DCN has a booth. 4. 7:20pm Adjournment There will be NO meeting on July 4th ** NEXT MEETING - August 1, 2001 **
