Davis Community Network Information Providers Committee Regular Meeting Wednesday, April 2, 2003 Meeting Notes Members present: Alan Bodenhorn, Alan Bratesani, Anne Evans, Anne Hance, Richard Yamagata Members absent: John Chiles, Wendy Yoder Visitors: Tsui Chang, Ralph Finch, Margaret Kralovec 1. All to Order 6:33 P.M. 2. Agenda approved as distributed 3. Review Projects a) We approved the Friends of the University Airport (FUA) presented by Ralph Finch as follows: 1 shell account - no charge 30 MB web storage 1 Mailman List Web Team help Start April 2, 2003 - end indefinite FUA will pay normal rates for the Virtual hosting with one IP address for two domains foua.net and foua.org (already purchased). The committee noted that commercial activity is not appropriate unless it is limited and specifically benefits the nonprofit organization (not any individual person). b) We approved Friends of Don Saylor presented by Tsui Chang as follows: 1 shell account - no charge (one year only) default web storage 1 Mailman List 1 Forum (type to be determined) Web Team help Start April 2, 2003 - end April 2, 2004 The committee discussed the precedence set by this (and prior year authorizations of free shell accounts to local candidates. We considered that Davis City Council and School Board candidates are "local" and request the DCN Board to consider what, if anything, should be made available to local California Assembly or Senate candidates. 4. a) Margaret Kralovec presented her dilemma which is that her simple site (authorized for PCDCP in March) is not ready but she urgently needs to create links to a specific event calendar and a Mailman subscription. The committee decided to make a second Simple Site available for 6 months with a progress report in three months time. 4. b) We considered the question (referred to us by Steve McMahon) raised by the Davis Historical Society about using 1 GB of storage space and decided to recommend that when the society is ready they should apply to the IPC for a shell account which could be given up to 50 MB in incremental steps. 1 GB was considered an excessive amount to provide without charge for one small organization. The committee was not at this time inclined to suggest a discounted price for the large amount of storage.
