Conversation with Kimball Sargeant, DCN President, about the IPC and DCN touched on several issues. Kimball suggested that the committee might promote the DCN organization and its mission and activities to the project applicants a bit more than happened this evening. 6. The committee discussed an issue concerning how Zope Simple Sites are used. This resource was designed as a relatively uncomplicated alternative to a traditional web site. It is possible that some users will find that they want to use more Zope resources that the Simple Sites were expected to handle. The committee suggested two possible strategies: a) Encourage such users to put most or all of their content into a traditional shell account; b) Encourage the DCN Web Team to work on strategies to deal with the space and Simple Site organization issue. 7. Anne explained why the resources provided earlier to City Council candidates Saylor and Souza could not be made available for free. Such support could be perceived as support for the candidate and the resources as in-kind contributions to their campaigns. 8. Other: Richard Yamagata asked the question: Is DCN going to continue to provide free address aliasing on the server? Richard explained that this has been a free service since the inception of DCN. The cost of address aliasing is $12.95/month and has typically not been imposed upon the city council or any elected's or candidates web site on DCN. Examples of the address aliasing to which Richard was referring would be: http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/go/greenwald2000/ or http://www.dcn.davis.ca.us/go/gunnell/ The question of appearances came up in the discussion - ie. does this appear that DCN is endorsing such candidates? The committee decided that this question should be referred to the DCN Exec or the Board. Anne thought perhaps concern would be alleviated if there were to be a disclaimer on the DCN page where such links were placed. Adjourned at 7:50 pm Next meeting July 2, 2003
