Unstructured discussion about updating the DCN Website - Will DCN hire someone to work on this? - It could be done by a contractor or by volunteers but however it happens it will be important for the people involved to join, or be associated with, the DCN Webteam - There will need to be a planning group (IPC and Webteam and ?) - There must be goals and strategies for content, look and feel - perhaps the input for these could be gathered via a List - The current Search is not always effective. - How often is the site indexed? What is indexed? - Navigation of the current site can be difficult. Probably this is because the last excellent update did look and feel etc. but had to leave most of the 'old' content relatively untouched. - New update/revision might be in ZOPE (or PLONE?) - Style sheets will make future revisions of 'look' easier - The website could have some of its own history content and pictures of Davis as well as linking to others - Site could be 'humanized' by having local folks provide stories, travel anecdotes, travelogues, jokes etc. - How about a 'Free' box where people would post available free items or services. - Translation option into Spanish either 'on the fly' or prior translation (more accurate) - Should the site be a site of linages? - Should it have a core of rich unique content of its own as well? - Members pages very hard to find. - Some instructions on pages are too technical 5. We mentioned that the DCN Calendar can now be requested by organizations. The community aspect is not quite ready yet for use. Richard Reid gave a brief explanation of PLONE which may be available for group beta testing sometime in early 2004. Adjourned at 7:48 p.m. Next meeting January 7, 2004 -- - Anne Hance or
