Davis Community Network Resource Allocation Committee Regular Meeting Feb. 2, 2005 Meeting Notes Members present: Bodenhorn, Brattesani, Chiles, Evans, Hance, Absent: Seth, Yamagata, Lowenberg Visitors: Tsui Chang 1. Called to Order at 6:35 PM 2. Project Reviews: Two project applicants had notified the chair that they unexpectedly were unable to attend. These were the representatives for Davis Dragons and AAUW. The third applicant, representing Davis Citizens for Representation, did not appear. 3. Review of resources allocated in past 12 months or so. Anne had printed the homepages of 18 simple sites and committee members examined these briefly at the beginning of the meeting. It was apparent that some groups have been able to use the simple sites creatively while others have maintained the simple look. Both types looked as if they would be equally effective in communicating information. Many of the sites were up to date but some were not and on some it was hard to tell. It might be a good idea to suggest that the web authors use complete dates. Most use month and day without the year in the dates. Very few have "updated on" dates which would be very helpful for a web visitor. A few Simple Sites looked as if they had stalled and a small number of those allocated seem not to have been initiated. The committee wondered how DCN could provide more assistance (this is not a new concept) without leaning entirely on the Web Team's special simple site/mailman and Calendar classes. A community computer lab would of tremendous value for this and many other services. The committee wondered if there is a way of finding out how much traffic the simple sites get. It was agreed that the chair should contact each project leader asking what sort of further assistance might be helpful. Other: a) How about an occasional brief announcement in the Enterprise' "Briefly" section reminding people about the way to request specific event entries on the Community Calendar. Might the same information be submitted to DCTV announcements. b) Would DCN or the RAC consider participating in FM 101.5 KDRT's "Access Davis" show on a Friday from 12 - 1 PM The program is hosted by Anne Evans and she would be very interested.
