MEMBERS PRESENT: Jason Coffer, Anne Hance (Chair), Paul Healey, Ed Henn, Richard Lowenberg, Steve McMahon, John Movius, Richard Yamagata. VISITORS: John Batchelder, Donna Atz (presenting). James Grieshop (presenting), Susan Martindill (presenting). NOTE TAKER: Paul Healey A Approval of Agenda Approved. B. Housekeeping -- Approve notes of 04/01/98 and 5/6/98 meeting. Approved. C. Business 1. John Batchelder was approved as a new member and will vote at the next meeting. 2. Chair's proposal for added language in the Call for Proposals The addition of "Proposals submitted outside the established time-frames will be considered subject to the availability of DCN resources." was approved. 3. New Projects / Discount Awards a) Tsnungwe Tribe Web Site (Danny Ammon) It was decided to pass this request to DCN Staff, since the tribal website would be consistent with other work sponsored by the Executive Director. Although no IPC project was approved, the proposal was seen to potentially fall under the proposed new DCN policy allowing discounted accounts for nonprofits fitting specified criteria. b) Red Cross Mini Project (Susan Martindill) The request was for three additional dial-up accounts to be added to an existing paid account, and a total of 20 MB storage. This was approved under the assumption that a group account could be constructed at an additional $8.95 cost to DCN for each of the additions. The project length is six months -- through Dec 31, 1998. Susan Martindill was asked to communicate with DCN Administrator Annie Zeidman (liaison) because of related staff work on collaborative uses of information technology. c) Girl Scout Brownie Troop 1540 Mini Project (Donna Atz) A project with one non-dialup 10 MB shell account was approved through Dec 31, 1998. Because Richard Yamagata has been involved with an existing Girl Scout website of uncertain status, he volunteered to act as liaison and work on possible integration of the two sites. Since the ultimate goals of the project are fairly ambitious, the Committee noted that care should be taken to use storage efficiently, to communicate with the Web Team on questions of compatibility with DCN server software, and to collaborate with other troops wherever possible in order to avoid duplication of effort. d) Dixon Weavers Mini Project (James Grieshop) Weavers is a UCD demonstration project aimed at assessing the information-technology needs of migrant farm worker families, and helping those families gain practical experience with the tools. James Grieshop emphasized the educational importance of the project, noting that only two parents currently at the farm worker camp have used computers. The request for four dial-up accounts through Oct 31, 1998 was approved. Richard Lowenberg, who has already been following the project, will be liaison, and John Movius offered to contribute any useful hardware he may have available. It is understood that Weavers will maintain communication with similar local projects. 4. Clarification of two past projects. a) Birch Lane The current Birch Lane project will be terminated, and its activities included under the DJUSD MOU, at the end of September. --- Remaining agenda items were tabled for lack of time. F. The meeting adjourned at approximately 7:30 p.m.
