Filtering Spam Tagged by DCN Using Outlook Express 5 for Macintosh

Creating your spam filter within Outlook Express

These instructions are for creating a rule to filter out incoming e-mail that has been tagged by the DCN mail server as spam.
These instructions are for users of Outlook Express using POP to get their e-mail.

Open Outlook Express if it is not already open.

Step 1

Open the 'Rules' window by choosing from the menu:
Tools > Rules
You will now be shown the 'Rules' window.


Step 2

Click on the 'Mail(POP)' tab if necessary and then click on the 'New' button .
You will now be shown the 'Edit Rule' window.


Step 3

Enter 'Junk Mail' in the 'Rule name' field.


Step 4

In the 'If' section, select 'Specific header' from the popup menu.


Step 5

Enter X-Barracuda-Spam-Flag: in the field to the right of 'Specific header' as shown below.


Step 6

Choose 'Exists' from the popup menu to the right of 'X-Barracuda-Spam-Flag:' as shown below.



Step 7

The 'If' section should now look like this.


Step 8

In the 'Then' section choose 'Move message' from the popup menu as shown below.



Step 9

Choose 'Choose folder' in the next popup menu to the right of 'Move message' as shown below.


Step 10

You will now be shown the 'Choose Folder' window.
Click on the 'New Folder' button.


Step 11

A 'New Folder' window will appear.
Enter 'Junk Mail' as the name of the new folder.
Click on the 'Create' button


Step 12

Your new 'Junk Mail' folder will now appear in the 'Choose Folder' window.
Click once to highlight it.
Click on the 'Choose' button


Step 13

You will now be back at the 'Edit Rule' window.
It should like like the picture below.
Click on the 'OK' button.


Step 14

You will now be back at the 'Rules' window.
Your new rule will be listed in this window.
Please be sure that the checkbox to the left of your 'Junk Mail' rule is turned on.
This enables the rule.
You can now close this window.


Step 15

You have now added a 'Junk Mail' rule to Outlook Express.
Any new incoming mail that matches the rule will be moved to the 'Junk Mail' folder.
