VIRTUAL SCIENCE FIELD TRIPS OFFERED
FOR K-12 CLASSES

Funding for our K-12 classes in California is severely challenged, including funds for science field trips which are being cut from many school curricula. Quail Ridge Wilderness Conservancy (QRWC) is offering virtual biology field trips to Quail Ridge Reserve (QRR) -- located near Lake Berryessa in Napa County, California -- to schools whose field trips have been cut or curtailed. The Reserve has three webcams which can be accessed from a computer.

Frank Maurer, QRWC Executive Director and founder of QRWC and QRR, conducts the virtual as well as the actual field trips on the Reserve. The Reserve is a 2000 acre, undeveloped nature reserve of native California landscapes and wildlife, easily accessible from both the Sacramento and Bay Area.

A small tax-deductible donation to the Conservancy by the school, family members or any other supporter starts the process, which consists of:
  • Preparation by telephone with the teachers
  • In-class presentation using our three live webcams situated on the Reserve
  • YouTube presentations showing human history and natural history in the Reserve area.
  • For extra credit, students may come on an actual field trip with their parents on one of the QRWC's monthly public interpretive walks (thus bypassing any costs to the school)

Please take a few minutes to pass this notice on to one of more of your local schools and help meet a real need in this time of widespread cutbacks.
